New Edition! The Scam in its fourth print run

June 19, 2005

NEW Edition!! New Material!

The SCAM is back in its fourth printing – this time as a paperback! Price Rs 250 only.

In 1993, Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal wrote the first book on what was known as the Securities Scam, which exposed the shady nexus between banks and brokers to ramp up prices and cheat the financial system. It was also the story of Harshad Mehta, the man who sold the dream of untold riches to ordinary middle class people. The scam expose on April 23, 1992 by Sucheta Dalal had led to India’s biggest ever stock market crash.

The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away was an immediate best seller.

Ten years later, Harshad’s former buddy Ketan Parekh was involved in a similar securities scandal leading to the setting up of the second ever Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation in independent India. Due to repeated reader requests and inquiries, we updated the original book and published it as –

The Scam – From Harshad Mehta to Ketan Parekh.

Thirteen years later, Harshad Mehta has passed away and his brother Ashwin has been recently convicted. As the wheels of justice continue their slow grind, new generations of readers continue to ask for the book, probably because it is written in a style that the lay person can understand.

The new paperback edition includes material on Global Trust Bank, Dinesh Dalmia and the second JPC fiasco.
