CIC defers final hearing in SEBI-NSDL case

October 27, 2009

The hearing of a right to information (RTI) petition that was supposed to be the final word on the matter, concluded without a verdict on Tuesday and another hearing has been scheduled.

On the petitioner's allegation that the final order has been withheld unlawfully and against the doctrine of RTI and SEBI Act, the SEBI respondent replied that since the matter involving NSDL was still under investigation, SEBI would not be in a position to make the said order public. Under Section 8(1)(h) of the RTI Act, there is no obligation for the respondent to disclose any information which would impede the process of investigation.
